Sunday, January 18, is a snow day and worship was cancelled at FBC Wallingford . . .but God is still on the throne and heaven is open!
Take a few minutes and meditate on these wise words from Pastor Lubin:
The Blessing of a Snowy Day — When God’s House Is Closed, Heaven Is Still Open
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
Beloved family of FBC,
Today, the snow has gently covered our streets, our rooftops, and our pathways. While FBC may be closed today for safety, let me remind you of this eternal truth: God is never closed. His doors are always open, His mercy is always available, and His presence is never hindered by weather, walls, or distance.
This snowy day is not a disruption—it is an invitation.
1. Snow as a Sign of God’s Cleansing Grace
The prophet Isaiah gives us this beautiful promise:
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” — Isaiah 1:18 (NIV)
As you look outside and see the world covered in white, let it remind you of the grace of God that covers our lives. Snow does not erase what was underneath—it transforms what we see. In the same way, God’s forgiveness does not deny our past, but it redeems it, renews it, and makes us new in Christ.
This is a perfect day to sit by the fireplace or on the couch, open your Bible, and thank God for the grace that makes us clean and whole.
2. Snowy Days Call Us to Sacred Stillness
In a world that constantly rushes, snow forces us to slow down. Roads close. Plans pause. The noise quiets. And in that stillness, God speaks.
“The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” — Habakkuk 2:20 (NIV)
Sometimes, God gives us a sermon not from the pulpit, but from the window. Today’s sermon may be the gentle falling of snow, whispering to your soul: Rest. Reflect. Reconnect.
3. Worship Does Not Need a Building
Jesus reminds us:
“A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.” — John 4:23 (NIV)
Church is not canceled—church is scattered. FBC may not gather in one place today, but we are still united in one Spirit, one faith, and one Lord.
Your living room becomes a sanctuary.
Your couch becomes a pew.
Your Bible becomes today’s pulpit.
4. God Is Our Shelter in Every Storm
Snow may fall, winds may blow, and plans may change, but God remains our refuge.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (NIV)
As you stay warm and safe today, remember that your greatest security is not in walls or weather forecasts—it is in the hands of a faithful God who watches over you and your family.
5. A Call to Personal Time with God
Today, I invite you to do something holy and simple:
Sit by the fireplace or rest on the couch.
Open your Bible.
Lift your heart in prayer.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
Let this snowy day become a holy day—a moment where God refreshes your soul, renews your strength, and reminds you that He is near.
Closing Blessing
Beloved FBC family, even if our doors are closed today, heaven’s doors remain wide open. May the peace of God fall on your home like the snow falls on the earth—gently, completely, and beautifully.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.” — Numbers 6:24–26 (NIV)
Stay warm. Stay safe. Stay in the Word.
And remember: God is always open.
Grace and peace,
Your beloved Pastor
