Dominican Republic Mission Team

Eighty-two short term volunteers from Wallingford and beyond joined First Baptist's 2011 DR Mission Team. The team is also working to solve long-term poverty issues in the La Romana region of the DR – programs like Fifty for 50 (rebuilding every home in the poorest village), Fulfilling Smiles (feeding those who are hungry in the bateyes), Biosand Water Filters (providing clean water to thousands of homes), and Mandes Cocina (feeding the very poor while they are patients at the Good Samaritan Hospital).

Since 1990, First Baptist Church of Wallingford, Connecticut has led mission/work trips to La Romana, Dominican Republic. Starting with just 11 short-term missionaries that first year, the DR MissionTeam now takes groups of 80+ for nine or ten day trips to La Romana. Serving some of the poorest people in our hemisphere in the Haitian sugarcane villages (bateyes), these trips have had a tremendous impact on those who have travelled to the DR ans supported from home. Over the years, FBC's DR Mission Team has helped build the Good Samaritan General Hospital, provided desperately needed medical clinics, built schools, churches and homes, installed hundreds of clean water filters, fed thousands of families, shared the Good News of Chirst, and many other related projects. This effort extends far beyond the church doors - many others from different churches, denominations, towns and states have joined us on our annual trips to the DR.
