What We Believe
At FBC Wallingford, we believe . . .
The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is the final authority for faith, doctrine, and Christian living (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 119:105).
The One True God
We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal in power and glory and are worthy of worship and obedience (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal, visible return in power and glory (John 1:1–14; Isaiah 7:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11).
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and regenerates, indwells, sanctifies, and empowers every believer for holy living and service (John 16:8–13; Titus 3:5; Galatians 5:22–25; Acts 1:8).
Humanity and Sin
We believe that humanity was created in the image of God but fell into sin through disobedience. As a result, all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are in need of salvation (Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12).
Salvation
We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. It is a gift of God, not a result of works. All who repent of sin and trust in Christ are forgiven, justified, and made new (Ephesians 2:8–9; Romans 5:1; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:16).
The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, composed of all true believers, and that the local church is called to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and serve the world in Christ’s name (Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 2:41–47; Ephesians 4:11–16).
The Ordinances
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ established two ordinances for the Church:
• Baptism, by immersion, as a public testimony of faith in Christ (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3–4).
• The Lord’s Supper, as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice until He comes (1 Corinthians 11:23–26).
Christian Living
We believe believers are called to live holy lives, walking in love, obedience, and faith, empowered by the Holy Spirit, bearing witness to Christ in word and deed (Romans 12:1–2; Colossians 3:12–17; Matthew 5:16).
The Return of Christ and Eternal Destiny
We believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, the eternal joy of the redeemed in God’s presence, and the eternal separation from God for those who reject Him (John 14:1–3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 20:11–15; Revelation 21:1–4).
