New Sermon Series by Pastor Steve Knott . . . "The Real God"

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. Worship is pure or base as the worshiper entertains high or low thoughts of God…For this reason the gravest question before the Church is always God Himself, and the most portentous fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like. We tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God. This is true not only of the individual Christian, but of the company of Christians that composes the Church. Always the most revealing thing about the Church is her idea of God.” –A.W. Tozer

If you were asked, “What is God like?”…what would you say? Most Christians today go through life praying a little, attending church occasionally, serving in their own strength and hoping for the best, but are not truly living life God’s way and with His power…why? It all begins with our view of God.

Chip Ingram (author of “The Real God”) wrote: “Every one of us view God through our own personal lens of perceptions and assumptions. Some of our ideas may be true, but others might be distorted. Our mental picture of God may have been shaped by our parents, past experiences, or the influence of popular culture…There is no greater pursuit in life than to have an accurate understanding of God and experience a life-giving relationship with Him…God has revealed Himself (in Scripture) and He wants to be known by you.”

I encourage you (beginning Dec. 8th) and over the next several weeks, to journey with me on Sunday mornings as we take a deeper look at who God reveals Himself to be in the pages of Scripture—a study of (7) attributes of God: His goodness, sovereignty, holiness, wisdom, justice, love, and faithfulness.

Our HOPE starts with knowing God for who He really is.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Steve
