Discipleship at FBC Wallingford . . . So Much is Happening!

An update on Discipleship at FBC Wallingford from Lyvia King, Coach of Discipleship . . .

I have privilege of overseeing the FBC discipleship programs as Coach for 2023. My first priority is to support Gabby Butler as she leads the children's Sunday School class. She is currently a Freshman at SCSU, pursuing an education degree. Gabby has been attending Sunday School at FBC since she was in the third grade and has been actively involved since. She is very committed to working with the children and is doing an outstanding job. Of course, as we grow and as we get more students, we will need more teachers.

My second priority is the nursery. We are moving it back across the hall so there will be a sink and a bathroom, and it will adjoin Gabby's classroom (the former music room). At this time, we will not be staffing it with volunteers, just providing a clean, healthy environment for parents (or grandparents) to use when needed. The carpet will need to be removed and laminate flooring installed. Most of the furniture can just be moved across the hall and used once it is cleaned and sanitized. Sherri Baker has volunteered to oversee the maintenance of the nursery once it is done, and make sure it is clean and supplied with the necessary baby wipes, antibacterial wipes and sprays, trash is removed, door unlocked Sunday morning and then locked after service, etc. Christine Salisbury has volunteered to make a valance for the window and possibly a skirt covering under the sink. She also volunteered to paint the one dark wall to brighten it up.

The Christmas offering this year will go toward the nursery – if you would like to contribute funds to help with the flooring, decals for the walls, new toys, etc., please click here or submit your marked envelope (with "Christmas" or "Nursery") in the giving box at church.

Right now, I am putting together a team to provide opportunity for the preteens and teens. This group is scheduled to attend the powerful Encounter event at Monadnock Bible Camp in New Hampshire this coming February. Danielle Barnhart, Bill and Carol Conant, and several others have agreed to work with this age group.

When the Montessori School went in the FBC Sunday School wing, many items were moved to classrooms and they are in much need of reorganization. This will take much work by many hands, and we'll organize some volunteer work times after the classroom and nursery are done.

There are also currently many adult opportunities for discipleship . . .

- Mondays, 6pm, on Zoom - prayer meeting

- Mondays, 7pm, on Zoom - Bible Study

- Tuesdays, 10am, on Zoom - SISTERS (Ladies) Bible Study

- Tuesdays, 10am, at Half Moon Cafe - men's fellowship and devotional time

- Wednesdays, 6:30pm, in FBC's Community Room - Bible Study

I am excited for what God has planned for FBC. I appreciate your encouragement and support. Please email me or speak to me at church if you can help out with discipleship at FBC and if you have any questions.

Blessings,
